Weapon Endoscopy: Barrel Profile Videos
IBoWV offers endoscopic videos of the interior of extracted runners (in short: barrel profile videos) for private and business customers. Barrel profile videos can be ordered in the following variants:
LA-L – Linear axial barrel profile video (per barrel)
- Video in the direction of the barrel bore
- Rotation-free feed movement
- Suitable for single- and multi-barrel rifles
LR-L – Linear radial barrel profile video (per barrel)
- Video at an angle of 90° to the barrel bore
- Rotation-free feed movement
- 4 viewing directions after each 90° rotation: 12 – 3 – 6 – 9 o’clock
- Suitable for single-barrel rifles
RR-L – Rotating radial barrel profile video (per barrel)
- Video at an angle of 90° to the barrel bore
- Superimposition of rotation and feed movement according to twist
- 1 pass per stroke/field pair
- Suitable for single-barrel rifles
360R-L – 360° radial barrel profile video (per position)
- Video at an angle of 90° to the barrel bore
- Local 360° rotation around the barrel bore
- X-position in the barrel is defined by the customer
- Suitable for single-barrel rifles

The barrel profile video starts at the muzzle, runs through the rifling/chamber, the cartridge chamber and ends in the area of the breech (exception: 360R-L). The resolution of each video is technically limited to 640x480px. The videos are provided in MP4 (H.264/AVC) format on a Type A USB stick.
IBoWV does not evaluate the condition of the barrel.

To assess the corrosion condition of the barrel, the barrel profile videos should be taken without cleaning the barrel. To assess erosion, deposits and special events, the barrel must be cleaned before recording the barrel profile videos. The customer can do this themselves before delivery.
Alternatively, barrel cleaning can be carried out optionally together with a barrel profile video by IBoWV using the following cleaning procedures (the offer only applies to bolt-action rifles):
- Basic Barrel Cleaning
- 50 double strokes with Bronze Brush
- Solvent: Shooter’s Choice Barrel Cleaner MC-7 & Shooter’s Choice Tombac Remover
- Material: Dewey Patches & Bronze Brush
Basic barrel cleaning is recommended if only once shooting has been carried out since the last cleaning.
- Enhanced Barrel Cleaning
- 150 double strokes with Bronze Brush
- Solvent: Shooter’s Choice Barrel Cleaner ‘extra strong’ & Shooter’s Choice Tombac Remover & JB Bore Cleaning Compound
- Material: Dewey Patches & Bronze Brush
If the barrel has been fired multiple times since the last cleaning, with intervening phases of cooling and corrosion formation, enhanced barrel cleaning is recommended.
Barrel cleaning is primarily used to remove dirt and corrosion that significantly impair the quality of the barrel profile videos. The barrel profile video is generated based on the cleaning results.
Depending on the barrel history, further procedures and additional chemical agents with difficult-to-calculate costs are required to completely remove deposits. This is not included in the scope of the IBoWV offer.

Measurement of Geometric Dimensions
Two geometric dimensions are of particular interest when assessing a customer’s cartridge load in relation to the condition of the barrel:
- Ø of the cartridge chamber in the area of the case mouth
- Non-rotational free flight of the bullet before entering the rifling
IBoWV can be commissioned to measure both parameters for bolt-action rifles. Two cartridges and two fired cases (uncleaned, uncalibrated) of the same cartridge load are required for the measurement.
The measurement of the above-mentioned geometric dimensions of the cartridge chamber is an optional service offered as part of the commissioning of a barrel profile video.

The IBoWV does not evaluate the condition of the barrel.
Handling Weapons Subject to Authorisation
The provision of the services described here requires the handling of weapons subject to authorisation and the necessary care. This requires a pre-contractual review, which includes the following steps:
- Verification of compliance with the statutory framework conditions for firearms: Customer weapons will only be measured after proof of legal ownership has been provided. IBoWV requests that the relevant proof be presented.
- Checking the compatibility of the customer’s weapon with the measuring stand: The barrel videos are not universally applicable to all rifles. Please pay particular attention to the geometrical restrictions of the measuring stand, which must be checked in advance to avoid unnecessary weapon transport.
- Transfer and transport of the customer’s weapon: If the weapon is transferred without the customer being present, IBoWV asks the customer to present a loan certificate (German citizens only) for the measurement period. The weapon can be shipped via courier service within the borders of the Federal Republic of Germany. Due to the applicable regulations for the export and import of weapons and the associated costs, transport beyond the borders of the Federal Republic of Germany is not offered.
